All 32 jails in the Punjab have been sprayed with insecticide to ward off dengue, Inspector General for Prisons Kokab Nadeem Warraich said on Sunday. He said that all prison facilities had been fumigated and jail superintendents told to arrange for medicines. Any prisoner suspected of having dengue would be sent to hospital, he said. He said jailers had been told to put up mosquito nets and make sure inmates cover exposed body parts with lotion. He pointed out that Punjab’s jails were severely overcrowded, with 55,128 inmates housed in facilities meant for 21,527.
