Following earthquake tremors in the Malir area, panic and unrest spread among inmates in District Jail Malir. Reportedly, prisoners in Barrack two of Circle 11 began screaming, demanding to be let out.
The jail administration called for reinforcement from police and Rangers, which came within minutes. Jail authorities then used loudspeakers and urged prisoners to remain calm, after which the situation was brought under control. However, due to security concerns, surveillance and monitoring at the jail have been further tightened, as recently, similar tremors at Malir Jail caused chaos to break out, after which over two and a half dozen prisoners escaped. Most of them were later returned to custody.
