A fresh westerly weather system began affecting Karachi on Sunday, bringing light to moderate rain, thunder, and dust-laden winds to several parts of the city and its outskirts.

According to Express News, rainfall was recorded along the M-9 Motorway near Nooriabad and in areas including the Super Highway, Kathore, Baldia Town, Sohrab Goth, Gulshan-i-Maymar, and Surjani Town.

Thunderclouds and lightning were observed over Gulshan-i-Iqbal and surrounding localities, while dusty winds persisted into the evening.

The change in weather, attributed to a pre-monsoon system, brought some relief from the prevailing heat.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the westerly system is currently influencing upper parts of the country, while moisture-laden winds are affecting southeastern Sindh. Under its impact, further rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Karachi on Monday and Tuesday.

Elsewhere in Sindh, districts including Ghotki, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Qambar Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Dadu, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Tharparkar are expected to receive scattered light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder.

Between June 16 and 17, additional rainfall is likely in Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying areas vulnerable to waterlogging and in localities affected by dust storms and reduced visibility.
