The Central Region Motorway Police has issued a travel advisory in view of an ongoing severe heatwave to ensure the safety of travelers on highways.
The advisory urged citizens to take necessary precautions before embarking on journeys during the extreme hot conditions affecting the area.
It emphasised the importance of thorough vehicle checking before travel, especially the water and coolant levels before driving in severe heat, while monitoring engine temperature and tire pressure remains crucial for safe travel during the conditions.
A spokesperson warned against keeping flammable or heat-sensitive items in vehicles, specifically advising travelers not to leave lighters, mobile phones or perfumes inside cars during extreme heat.
The motorway police strongly advised against unnecessary travel between 11am and 4pm, when temperatures typically reach their peak.
