A departmental inquiry has been launched against a driver employed at the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), following allegations of involvement in a raid on a call centre and the suspected abduction of its owner.
The inquiry was ordered by the director general of the NCCIA.
According to sources, officials from three different institutions allegedly conducted multiple raids at a call centre in Islamabad and reportedly took the owner with them.
They allegedly demanded ransom before releasing the individual.
After being released, the victim approached Islamabad police. Upon the case being handed over to the CIA unit, CCTV footage reportedly led to the identification of a driver from the NCCIA and an official from the Karachi Company police station as suspects.
Police subsequently detained these individuals along with other suspects.
Three of the accused are now under departmental investigation by their respective agencies, while police have initiated legal proceedings against the two identified suspects.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the NCCIA clarified that the incident appeared to be the result of an individual's actions rather than an institutional operation.
While the driver was initially cleared of the charges by police in preliminary findings, Director General Waqaruddin Syed has still ordered a full internal probe.
Further action will be taken in accordance with legal and administrative rules once the inquiry report is submitted, he said.
