Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again showcased his incredible talent and composure, smashing a mature 57 to lead Rajasthan Royals to a six-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.

Suryavanshi, who made headlines earlier this season by becoming the youngest player to hit a professional men’s T20 century, displayed remarkable maturity in chasing down 188 runs at the Delhi venue on May 20, 2025.

Starting cautiously with just 12 runs off his first 10 balls while opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal dominated with a swift 36 off 19 balls, Suryavanshi then shifted gears decisively after Jaiswal’s dismissal.

His 11th ball was a towering six off Noor Ahmed, followed by two elegant fours through the covers.

The young left-hander’s power display peaked with two huge sixes over long-on off India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and he reached his fifty in just 27 balls by lofting Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmed over square leg for a fourth six, expertly targeting Chennai’s left-arm bowlers.

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson heaped praise on the prodigy, saying, "I don't have words for him. He can hit over the leg side, he can wait and hit slower balls over covers for six. That tells you what kind of talent and temperament he has."

Suryavanshi scored 24 runs from just nine balls against Noor and 14 runs from five balls against Jadeja, with all four sixes coming over the leg side.

Eventually, he was dismissed after 33 balls, caught at backward point off off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. By then, the Royals needed only 50 runs from 36 balls, well within reach.

Samson added, "When the middle overs were going on, he smartly picked his options. It shows he is smart as well. That combination of potential, talent and game awareness is something special for Indian cricket."

The teenager’s brilliance helped Rajasthan finish the chase with 2.5 overs to spare. Dhruv Jurel supported with an unbeaten 31, sealing a vital consolation win as the Royals concluded their tournament.

On the other side, Chennai Super Kings, languishing at the bottom of the standings, posted 187-8 thanks to Ayush Mhatre’s 43 and Dewald Brevis’s 42.

However, the Royals’ tight bowling, conceding only 17 runs in the final three overs, kept the pressure firmly on CSK.

With one match left in the tournament, Chennai will look to bounce back, while all eyes remain on the young Suryavanshi — a true rising star lighting up the IPL.
