PESHAWAR:

An accountability court in Peshawar has confirmed the freezing of assets belonging to two government officials allegedly involved in the Kohistan financial scandal.

Judge Rajab Ali of the Accountability Court presided over the hearing on the National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) petitions seeking the freezing of assets of the two accused individuals.

The court approved NAB's request and ordered the freezing of the assets, thereby endorsing the directives previously issued by the NAB Director General.

During the proceedings, the court was informed that the accused, Mumtaz Khan and Muhammad Riaz, are allegedly involved in the multi-billion-rupee financial scandal in Kohistan.

NAB's prosecutor told the court that the bureau is actively investigating the case, which involves substantial misappropriation of public funds.

According to the prosecutor, the assets in question include seven luxury vehicles and various properties located in Islamabad.

The accused are alleged to have acquired these assets through benami (fictitious) ownership, including foreign-style houses, residential buildings, and flats in the capital.
