IHC allows changes in Dr Aafia petition

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted permission to amend a petition seeking the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui from a US prison and her repatriation to Pakistan.

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the case. During the proceedings, Dr Aafia's sister, Dr Fauzia Siddqui, requested the court to allow changes to teh original petition. The court accepted the request and directed the petitioner's lawyer to submit the amended petition within a week.

The court also questioned the additional attorney general on why the government was seeking to dispose of the case. The law officer responded that the government had already taken all possible steps in the matter.

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq khan remarked that the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui is a long-term struggle and has evolved into a broader campaign.
