The Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab) has launched a cutting-edge rainwater harvesting and storage system.
The centrepiece of this initiative is a specially constructed rainwater harvesting lake, 20 feet deep with a storage capacity of up to 5 million gallonssufficient to capture runoff from two heavy monsoon spells.
The reservoir is not only intended for rainwater collection but also plays a vital role in groundwater recharge, ensuring long-term water sustainability in the region.
The system's efficiency was recently validated during a pre-monsoon shower, when the collected rainwater was successfully diverted into the new CBD Punjab Lake.
The test run demonstrated the project's viability and served as a milestone in CBD Punjab's ongoing environmental efforts.
"This initiative is not just about conserving waterit's about rethinking urban development with sustainability at its core," said Imran Amin, CEO of CBD Punjab.
"By efficiently capturing and reusing rainwater, we are taking a transformative step toward environmental stewardship and climate resilience."
The project is part of CBD Punjab's larger sustainability strategy, which focuses on integrating eco-friendly infrastructure, promoting water conservation, and adopting climate-resilient urban planning. By embracing nature-based solutions, the authority seeks to set new standards for responsible development in Pakistan.
"This landmark project underscores our vision of a greener, smarter, and more sustainable urban futurewhere innovation, conservation, and progress go hand in hand for the benefit of future generations," Amin added.
