Hot and dry weather is expected to continue across most parts of Pakistan during the next few days, with very hot conditions forecast for the southern plains, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Tuesday.

According to the PMD, continental air is currently prevailing over much of the country, contributing to the ongoing hot and dry spell.

While the majority of regions will remain dry, isolated rain-wind and thunderstorm activity may occur in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, similar weather conditions will persist, with temperatures expected to rise further in southern areas such as Sindh and southern Punjab. The PMD warned that the afternoons in these regions will likely be "very hot," especially in Sindh.

During the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather was observed in most areas. However, scattered rainfall was recorded in parts of Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Kalam received 6 mm of rain, Pattan 4 mm, and Chilas 5 mm. Gupis recorded 3 mm, while Skardu, Bunji, and Bagrote each saw 2 mm.

The highest temperature recorded in the country on Monday was in Dadu, where the mercury reached 47°C. Other high readings included 45°C in Khairpur, Mohenjo-Daro, and Larkana.

Looking ahead, the PMD expects the current weather pattern to hold through Thursday, with hot and dry conditions forecast for most areas and no significant change anticipated in the temperature trend.

Citizens are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and take necessary precautions in areas experiencing very hot conditions
