Health authorities have warned that negligence in the anti-dengue campaign this year could result in a higher number of dengue cases compared to last year.
Meanwhile, the recently concluded anti-polio drive was declared a success, and a new round will commence on May 26.
Speaking at a press briefing, District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Asif Arbab Niazi alongside District Health Officer Dr Ehsan Ghani and Dr Waqar emphasised the need for eliminating dengue larvae through mechanical removal rather than chemical fogging, which they said can lead to respiratory issues and may make mosquitoes more resistant.
Dr Niazi stated that repeated detection of dengue larvae resulted in 150 FIRs, 800 fines, and the sealing of 900 properties.
Public awareness campaigns were extended to schools, colleges, and universities, with support from parliamentarians at the grassroots level.
He reported that during the most recent polio campaign, 1,057,456 children were vaccinated.
