Following his divisive HBO series The Idol, The Weeknd is stepping into even more personal territory with Hurry Up Tomorrow, a new psychological musical thriller set to hit theaters next month.

The film stars The Weeknd playing a fictionalized version of himself, alongside Wednesday star Jenna Ortega and Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan.

It explores the unraveling of a superstar teetering on the edge of a breakdown.

Directed and co-written by Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes At Night), the film is slated to premiere in cinemas on May 14, with a streaming release to follow.

Fans got their first look at Hurry Up Tomorrow in a special preview screening held in Phoenix, Arizona.

The event was made even more unique by the fact that The Weeknd personally flew out selected fans to be the first to experience the film.

But the surprise didn’t end there: each guest was handed an emotional letter from the artist himself, revealing just how close to the bone this project hits.

The letter reads:
"By now, you know this project took shape during one of the darkest moments of my life. Everything came to a standstill - in that moment on stage. I didn't know how to move forward. It wasn't just physical—it was a crisis of identity, of purpose."

"Looking back on it now, as strange as it sounds, I felt lucky it happened in front of all of you...And so, I made this for you. For the ones who've been with me from the beginning. For the ones who find comfort in the dark, who search for meaning in sound and silence."

"I hope this film stays with you—that you find meaning tucked between the lines."

"Thank you for letting me take risks. Thank you for giving me space to create on my own terms. The road hasn't been easy—But this film reminded me why I started."

The vulnerability and sincerity in his words have only heightened fan anticipation for the film, especially for those who have followed The Weeknd from his enigmatic early mixtape days to his global superstardom.

With Hurry Up Tomorrow, it seems the artist is diving deeper than ever before—not just into fiction, but into himself.
