New gas reserves discovered in Sindh
A significant gas discovery at the Soho-1 exploratory well in the Sujawal Block, Sindh, has been announced by Mari Energies Limited (MPCL), formerly known as Mari Petroleum.
As the sole operator with 100% working interest in the block, Mari Energies confirmed the well yielded 30.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas at a choke size of 64/64” with a wellhead pressure of 1,482.5 psi, Express News reported on Friday.
At 32/64” choke, the well flowed 18.84 MMSCFD at a higher pressure of 3,447.8 psi.
The company noted that this marks the first successful gas discovery in the Lower Goru formation within the Sujawal Block, a zone previously considered unproductive.
Further testing is underway on additional formations to evaluate the full potential of the find.
Earlier, Pakistan discovered a second major oil and gas reserve in the Waziristan Block, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marking a key development in the country’s energy sector.
According to MPCL, the Spin Wam-1 well is producing approximately 20.485 million cubic feet of gas per day and 117 barrels of light crude oil, with a wellhead pressure of 3,431 psi.
MPCL holds a 55% stake in the block, while OGDCL owns 35% and Orient Petroleum holds 10%.
Energy experts believe this area has strong potential for future discoveries, offering hope for greater energy security and reduced reliance on imports.
