Indian drone attack causes damage in Lahore
Pakistan’s armed forces have intercepted and destroyed 25 Israeli-origin Harop drones deployed by India since last night, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military said it employed both “soft-kill” (electronic countermeasures) and “hard-kill” (direct firepower) techniques to neutralise the drones effectively.
The announcement came hours after another Indian drone strike near Lahore injured four Pakistan Army personnel and partially damaged military equipment, according to DG ISPR.
The ISPR added that India’s latest drone escalation reflects “a state of panic” following Pakistan’s successful retaliation to the May 6 airstrikes, which resulted in the downing of five advanced fighter jets, several drones, and the deaths of Indian soldiers.
Speaking at a press briefing, Gen Chaudhry said the drone was the 13th to be launched by India in the past 48 hours and had “partially engaged a military target near Lahore.”
In a separate incident in the Miano area of Sindh province, one civilian was killed and another injured as a result of ongoing drone activity. Gen Chaudhry condemned what he called “persistent and reckless provocations” by India and reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces remain on high alert.
Earlier this today, ISPR confirmed the downing of 12 Indian drones, most of which were identified as Israeli-made Heron MK 2 models. The drones reportedly violated Pakistani airspace in multiple locations including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur and Karachi.
Moreover, flight operations in Lahore, Islamabad and Sialkot have resumed according to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), following a temporary suspension due to rising security concerns.
In a statement on Thursday, PAA spokesperson Saifullah Khan confirmed that the airports were “now available for flight operations” and advised passengers to stay in contact with their respective airlines for updated flight schedules.
