The Docks police have arrested two accused for cutting mangrove trees at a government forest located on the seashore. The police have also registered a case against them on the complaint of an employee of the Sindh Forest Department.
It is the first case registered for illegal logging in recent years. The employee named two accused, Tariq and Bilal, in the case. Around 120 kilogrammes of illegally-cut wood were recovered from the arrested accused. The complainant told the police that he was in the forest on an official visit when he noticed two persons cutting wood and loading it onto a donkey cart. A case under Section 188 has been registered against both the accused. Further investigation is underway. According to the KPT spokesperson, mangrove forests, known as the lungs of the sea, play a vital role in reducing marine pollution and also in blocking stormy waves. These forests stretch along Sindh's coastline through Balochistan to the Iran border.
