Prince Harry says he’s sad his children won’t know UK after losing security appeal

Prince Harry has spoken out following his unsuccessful legal appeal to reinstate publicly funded security during visits to the United Kingdom.

In a BBC interview aired on May 2, 2025, the Duke of Sussex expressed sorrow over the impact the ruling may have on his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. “They’re going to miss everything,” he said, adding that he no longer sees a way to bring his family back to the UK.

Earlier that day, the UK Court of Appeal unanimously ruled that removing his state-backed security was handled fairly, supporting a case-by-case approach for protection assessments. The decision followed Harry and Meghan Markle’s step back from royal duties in 2020 and subsequent move to the United States.

Following the court’s decision, Harry reflected on the personal toll the issue has taken on his family relationships. He suggested that his father, King Charles III, could help resolve the situation. “There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands,” he said, proposing that the matter could be resolved if Charles stepped back and allowed independent security experts to make the necessary decisions.

The prince also acknowledged ongoing tensions, stating that he and the King are not currently on speaking terms. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff,” Harry claimed, while expressing hope that reconciliation is still possible. Referencing the King's February 2024 cancer diagnosis, Harry added, “Life is precious,” and said he doesn’t know how much time his father has left.

Despite their “disagreements” and “differences,” Harry reiterated his wish to reconcile with his family, emphasizing, “There’s no point in continuing to fight.”
