British actor Damson Idris made a bold fashion statement at the 2025 Met Gala, arriving in a custom look inspired by his role in the upcoming Formula One film F1, where he stars as fictional driver Joshua Pierce. Themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the event celebrated craftsmanship and storytelling—both elements Idris brought to life on the red carpet.
He stepped onto the Met steps in a full APXGP racing suit, a direct nod to his film character. The moment reached its peak when Idris dramatically removed the glittering ensemble—complete with a helmet adorned with 20,000 Swarovski crystals—to unveil a sharply tailored Tommy Hilfiger tuxedo beneath. Styled in Tommy Tartan plaid, the tux offered a perfect balance of cinematic spectacle and sartorial elegance.

“We’re excited to partner with the highly anticipated film F1,” said Tommy Hilfiger. “Damson’s Met Gala entrance was designed to reflect the same cinematic energy he brings to the screen.”
Idris was also reunited with seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, who co-chairs the 2025 gala and serves as a producer on the film. “There’s no better person to teach you about F1 than Lewis Hamilton,” Idris said at a recent IWC event. Hamilton, reflecting on being asked to co-chair, shared: “When [Anna Wintour] told me the theme, I was so, so excited. Then she asked me to co-chair… I couldn’t believe it.”
With F1 set to hit theatres on June 27, Idris' appearance fused fashion and film in spectacular fashion—blurring the line between red carpet glamour and cinematic storytelling, and securing his place as one of the night’s standout moments.
