Jenna Ortega attended the 2025 Met Gala in New York City on 5 May, arriving in a silver Balmain gown constructed entirely from metal rulers. The look was designed in alignment with the evening’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” and the overarching theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
The exhibition for this year's Met Gala examines the influence of Black dandyism from the 18th century to the present day, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion.
According to an official statement from Balmain, Ortega's dress was “crafted entirely from the metallic rulers used by pattern makers,” with the rulers placed vertically to sculpt a fitted silhouette and form a structured, bustier-style gown.

The 22-year-old actress complemented the metallic dress with a polished beauty look, featuring vintage-inspired waves, smoky grey eyeshadow and a deep burgundy lip colour. Her hairstyle evoked Old Hollywood glamour while remaining understated enough to let the dress take centre stage.
Ortega’s appearance marked her third Met Gala. She previously attended in 2022 in a monochrome Valentino outfit and in 2023 wearing a gothic Thom Browne corset ensemble. Her latest look stands out not only for its craftsmanship but also for its literal interpretation of the tailoring concept.
