Rain, thunderstorm predicted in Karachi today: PMD

Dust storm and light rain cool Karachi in early morning hours

Karachi is likely to experience strong winds and possible thunderstorms over the next two days, with rain expected in parts of the city today, according to Met Office.

The weather department forecast warm and humid weather for Karachi over the next 24 hours, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 35°C and 37°C.

According to the department, the current humidity level is 43%, with dry northwesterly winds blowing at a speed of 8 kilometres per hour. The minimum temperature recorded during the past 24 hours was 28°C.

Meanwhile, Karachi experienced a brief respite from ongoing heatwave conditions on Monday morning as strong winds and dust clouds swept through various parts of the city, followed by light rainfall in some areas. According to Express News, early morning showers were reported in Manghopir, offering temporary relief from high temperatures.

Eyewitnesses noted that dust storms and gusty winds began around dawn, lowering temperatures and briefly improving air quality.

Earlier weather alerts had predicted strong winds and isolated showers across southern Sindh, including Karachi.

In interior Sindh, severe dust storms caused significant damage. At least two people were reported dead and multiple homes damaged in towns including Naushahro Feroze, Shahpur Chakar, Sanghar, and Hyderabad. High winds and lightning uprooted trees, damaged rooftops, and affected solar panels. Widespread power outages were also reported.

In Padidan (Naushahro Feroze), a man identified as Arshad Malik died after a wall collapsed on him. In Kot Bahadur village near Mehrabpur, a woman named Sumbul was killed when the roof of her house collapsed due to the strong winds.

In Bhai Khan Babbar village, intense winds triggered a fire that destroyed over a dozen mud homes. Firefighting services arrived late, with villagers managing to control the blaze with minimal external help.

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) confirmed that 79 grid feeders tripped during the storm, disrupting electricity across Hyderabad. Water supply interruptions were also reported in several neighbourhoods.
