Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has instructed Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations to take immediate steps for convening a meeting of the UN Security Council.

The meeting is to address the prevailing security situation in South Asia, exacerbated by India’s provocative actions, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement revealed that Pakistan has decided to formally brief the UN Security Council on the current regional tensions, particularly highlighting India’s aggressive behaviour.

Pakistan will also raise concerns regarding India’s illegal actions to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), which regulates the usage of the Indus river system. “Pakistan will inform the Security Council about how India’s aggressive actions are jeopardising regional peace and security,” the statement said.

The ministry further emphasised that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts are aimed at presenting facts to the international community to counter India’s provocative stance.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s civil-military leadership will conduct a national security briefing on Sunday for representatives of political parties amid heightened tensions with India following a attack in IIOJK.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the briefing will be led by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry. It will focus on the current national security situation, especially concerning escalating friction with India.

The move follows an April 22 attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists. India accused Pakistan of involvement, a claim Islamabad has strongly denied. Both sides have since exchanged strong statements, with India vowing to target those responsible and Pakistan warning of a firm response to any military action.
