The provincial chief executive has approved the construction of Punjab's first-ever sports complex named after the late Najma Hameed, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former Senator.
According to informed sources, the Najma Hameed Sports Complex will be built on 70 kanals of land at the Railway Ground in Rawalpindi.
Najma Hameed is being honoured for her valuable services to the party and her instrumental role in strengthening PML-N in Rawalpindi. This will be the first state-of-the-art sports complex in Punjab named after a woman.
The PC-1 for the project has already been prepared and it will be included in the next fiscal year's development budget, with construction expected to begin in August.
The sports complex will feature a cricket ground, hockey ground, football field, indoor gymnasium, swimming pool, snooker rooms, and arenas for various indoor games. It aims to promote healthy activities among the youth of Dhoke Matkyal, Chohar Chowki, Westridge, Ratta Amral, Dhoke Ratta, Siam, and Hazara Colony.
MPA Malik Iftikhar says PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz have always prioritised Rawalpindi, and this project is a prime example of their commitment. He called Rawalpindi the stronghold of PML-N, and described the project as a tribute to Najma Hameed's lifelong services.
Party leader Malik Nasir Awan says this mega project will help engage local youth in healthy pursuits.
