Quarter-finals day 2: Germany crush Argentina

Football fans are ready to witness two more much awaited showdowns that will take place on the day 2 of the quarter-finals.

JOHANNESBURG:
Germany advanced to the FIFA World Cup semi finals after a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Argentina on Saturday.

Germany dominated the match with four goals, even with a 54 per cent Argentina possession and 20 shots on goal. The German goals came from Thomas Mueller, a brace from Miroslav Klose, winning his 100th cap, and Arne Friedrich.

In the second match, football giant Spain will take on Paraguay at Ellis Park at 11:30pm (PST).


This is the first time in their history that Paraguay will feature in the final eight of the World Cup.

Germany will play against the winner of the Spain-Paraguay match in the semi-finals on July 7, while the winners of yesterday, Netherlands and Uruguay will face each other on July 6.

In an unpredictable series of events, Netherlands beat the Brazilian team 2-1 in yesterday’s game, while Uruguay was managed an extremely close victory over Ghana, who were the only African team to reach the quarter-final stage.
