Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday urged Saudi Arabia and other friendly nations to encourage India to de-escalate tensions in South Asia following the recent Pahalgam attack.
During a meeting in Islamabad with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Maliky, Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in the region and condemned terrorism in all its forms.
“We reject the baseless accusations by India regarding the Pahalgam incident,” the Prime Minister said, adding that Pakistan supports a transparent and neutral international investigation into the April 22 attack that left 26 people dead in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Sharif stated that Pakistan’s focus remains on sustaining the economic progress achieved over the past 15 months with the help of international partners, including Riyadh.
“It is inconceivable for Pakistan to act irresponsibly or jeopardise the economic achievements made with great effort,” he said.
The Prime Minister conveyed his warm regards to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, thanking them for continued support and solidarity with Pakistan.
Ambassador Al-Maliky welcomed the Prime Minister’s remarks and affirmed Saudi Arabia’s desire to work closely with Pakistan for regional peace and security.
The remarks come amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India, with both countries exchanging diplomatic and strategic countermeasures following the Pahalgam incident. India has blamed Pakistan for the attack, a claim denied by Islamabad.
