Road crashes claimed 433 lives in April

At least 433 people lost their lives in 44,086 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab during April, according to the latest data released by the Punjab Emergency Service (PES).

The alarming figures were part of a broader report detailing 203,327 emergencies handled by PES across the province last month.

These included 131,511 medical emergencies, 5,090 fire incidents, 4,539 crime-related incidents, 3,713 childbirth emergencies, 5,002 falls, 2,070 occupational injuries, and other critical situations such as electric shocks, drowning, animal rescues, and structural collapses. In total, 206,685 individuals were affected by these emergencies.

The data revealed that Lahore topped the list of cities with the highest number of traffic crashes, recording 7,845 incidents and 40 deaths. Other major districts included Faisalabad (2,836 crashes), Multan (2,661), Gujranwala (2,318), Sheikhupura (1,572), and Rawalpindi (1,423). The remaining 25,431 road traffic crashes occurred across other districts of Punjab.

In terms of fire emergencies, the highest number of incidents were also recorded in Lahore (675), followed by Faisalabad (309), Multan (221), Gujranwala (219), Rawalpindi (189), and Sialkot (164).

Dr Naseer stressed the urgent need for behavioural change among road users to reduce preventable emergencies.
