NADRA upgrades chipless CNIC with new features

The new card is available for renewal, data modification, or replacement in case of loss.

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced an upgraded version of the non-chip National Identity Card, offering improved security, accessibility, and affordability.

The update aims to provide citizens with digital features, that were earlier limited to chip-based identity cards, while maintaining a lower cost than the SMART NICs.

Other updates includes:

Bilingual Information: Details on the card are provided in both English and Urdu for consistency with passports and official documents.

QR Code Integration: The card includes a QR code, enabling users to access their digital identity via the Pak ID mobile app.

In comparison a chip-based CNIC holds relevant data of the holder, while could be used for various purposes, without an internet connection.

Special Benefits for Organ Donors: Registered organ donors will have a unique symbol on their card and enjoy lifetime validity.

Exclusive Features for Persons with Disabilities: Cards for individuals with disabilities include distinct markers and lifetime validity.

The new card is available for renewal, data modification, or replacement in case of loss.

The pricing for the upgraded non-chip ID is as follows:

Normal: Rs400 (31-day delivery)

Urgent: Rs1,150 (15-day delivery)

Executive: Rs2,150 (9-day delivery)

First-time applicants aged 18: Free (normal category)

Separately, NADRA also revised the Smart CNIC fee structure for 2025. New Smart CNICs now cost Rs750 for normal, Rs1,500 for urgent, and Rs2,500 for executive processing.

These updates are part of NADRA’s ongoing efforts to modernise national ID systems and support digital governance in Pakistan.
