A bomb blast near the office of a peace (Aman) committee in the Wana area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) province's South Waziristan district, has killed at least seven people and left 29 others wounded, Express News reported.

Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan confirmed that the explosion occurred close to the committee's premises, resulting in multiple casualties.

The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for treatment. Police officials reported that the peace committee's office was completely destroyed in the blast.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, but no group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The explosion comes against a backdrop of rising militant activity in Pakistan. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), January 2025 witnessed a 42% surge in terror incidents compared to the previous month.

PICSS recorded 74 militant attacks nationwide during the month, causing 91 deaths — including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants — and injuring 117 others.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa remained the most affected region, with 27 attacks in its settled districts and 19 attacks in the tribal areas (former FATA), resulting in significant casualties.

Balochistan also experienced heightened militant activity with 24 recorded attacks.
