Megyn Kelly is hitting back at George Clooney after the actor mocked her journalism career during a conversation with Broadway icon Patti LuPone for Variety's Actors on Actors. On a recent episode of Kelly’s podcast, she fired back at Clooney, defending her journalistic credentials and criticizing his recent actions.
Kelly took issue with Clooney’s remarks in a New York Times op-ed, where the actor called for President Joe Biden to exit the 2024 Presidential race. In her response, Kelly questioned Clooney’s journalistic credentials, noting his own lack of timely reporting on major stories. She pointed to his delayed commentary on Biden’s mental fitness and the resulting op-ed after a presidential debate, accusing Clooney of being “cowardly” and engaging in “naked partisanship.”
Further criticizing Clooney, Kelly suggested that the actor's Broadway role in Good Night, and Good Luck, an adaptation of his 2005 film, might be an attempt to stay relevant as Hollywood roles become scarcer at the age of 63. “Are the Hollywood roles getting a little hard to come by as you age and get decidedly more smug and self-congratulatory?” she questioned sarcastically.
In response to Kelly's remarks, Clooney had previously mentioned during his conversation with LuPone that he didn’t claim to be a journalist, but had traveled to conflict zones like Darfur and Sudan to report firsthand stories. He dismissed Kelly’s criticism, asserting that his Broadway play simply showcased her words without any manipulation.
As of now, Clooney's representatives have not responded to Kelly’s comments.
