Barron Trump, the 19-year-old son of Donald and Melania Trump, has reportedly found a unique way to keep in touch with his college friends at New York University—by chatting through Xbox.
According to a source close to the situation, Barron has shifted from Discord, the popular chat app for gamers, to using Xbox’s messaging and voice chat features as his main form of communication with peers. The NYU freshman, who is constantly accompanied by Secret Service agents on campus, is said to be cautious about sharing his phone number for privacy and security reasons.
“It’s his communication platform of choice,” the source shared. “It’s part of his workaround because giving out his number creates more trouble than it’s worth.”
Due to his high-profile status, Barron avoids the typical college social experience. TMZ previously reported that he “hardly exists” on campus, keeping a low profile and moving quickly between classes. His reliance on gaming platforms allows him to stay connected without compromising his personal information.
The source noted that Barron only shares his gamer tag with people he knows personally, emphasizing that he's not engaging with strangers online. “It’s gamer bro culture,” the insider added. “He knows the people he’s talking to.”
President Trump has previously praised his son’s tech savvy, once sharing that Barron bypassed parental controls on a laptop and brushed off questions with, “None of your business, Dad.”
As he continues adjusting to college life under intense scrutiny, Barron Trump is using gaming culture to maintain a sense of normalcy—just with a bit more digital privacy.
