Chicago rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Banks, is seeking to have his federal murder-for-hire case dismissed, according to newly revealed court documents.
The case is tied to the 2022 attempted killing of rapper Quando Rondo in Los Angeles—a shooting that resulted in the death of Rondo's cousin.
Prosecutors allege that Banks orchestrated the attack as retaliation connected to the 2020 murder of fellow rapper King Von. Banks has been charged alongside four co-conspirators with crimes including murder, murder-for-hire, and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death.
The federal complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, claims Banks leads the Chicago-based rap collective Only the Family (OTF), which prosecutors describe as a violent group allegedly carrying out acts of assault and murder under Banks’ direction.
The incident occurred on August 19, 2022, when OTF members allegedly used two vehicles to track and attempt to murder the target, referred to in the complaint as "T.B.," at a Los Angeles gas station. The attack reportedly stemmed from an ongoing feud and included allegations that Banks placed a "monetary bounty" on the individual.
Durk’s legal team is challenging the case, arguing the prosecution misled the grand jury by referencing lyrics from one of his songs, which they claim was recorded months before the incident. They also contend that Banks had no involvement in a modified version later posted on YouTube.
As the case develops, Lil Durk continues to deny any wrongdoing, with his attorneys pushing to have the case thrown out entirely.
