Sindh seizes 17,980 motorcycles in campaign against traffic violations

Memon says 308 transport vehicles seized; 230 registrations suspended pending tech upgrades and fitness renewals

The Sindh government has launched a sweeping crackdown on traffic violations, resulting in the seizure of 17,980 motorcycles across the province, senior minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced in a press briefing.

Memon, who holds the portfolio for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, revealed that 308 heavy and light transport vehicles have also been confiscated. In addition, registration of 230 vehicles has been temporarily suspended, with their release contingent upon specific conditions such as technical upgrades and renewal of fitness certificates.

The crackdown also targeted illegal modifications. According to Memon, 1,295 actions were taken against vehicles with fancy number plates, tinted windows, and other unlawful accessories.

“Traffic irregularities endanger lives,” said the minister. “This crackdown is a clear demonstration of our commitment to safeguarding citizens.” He stressed that traffic violations are not minor offenses, but serious threats to public safety.

Memon vowed that the enforcement campaign will continue without discrimination. “This is just the beginning,” he warned. “Stricter measures will follow in the coming days.” He urged the public to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies and avoid illegal vehicle modifications, emphasising that public safety must remain the top priority.
