A heatwave is expected to hit Karachi starting Sunday, with conditions likely to persist until April 23, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

In a weather advisory issued by PMD, the department said maximum daytime temperatures could rise to 41°C during this period. Sea breezes are expected to remain suspended, leading to a significant increase in humidity levels across the city.

For the next 24 hours, the Met Office predicted hot and humid weather with clear skies. The minimum temperature recorded on Saturday was 26.8°C, while the maximum is expected to range between 36°C and 38°C. On Friday, the highest temperature recorded in Karachi was 34.3°C.

Winds are expected to blow from the west and southwest at speeds of 10 to 25 kilometres per hour.

“Between April 21 and 23, the city may experience a heatwave, with temperatures potentially rising 4 to 6 degrees above normal due to the absence of sea breeze and increased humidity,” the statement said.

Authorities have advised citizens to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak heat hours.
