Netflix has confirmed the second and final season of The Sandman will premiere this July, accompanied by the release of its first teaser trailer.
The streamer announced Thursday that the second season of The Sandman will be split into two volumes. The first volume, comprising six episodes, will launch on 3 July, followed by a second volume of five episodes set to release on 24 July.
A teaser trailer released alongside the announcement shows the return of Dream (Tom Sturridge) and his reunion with his family of Endless siblings.
The final chapter will conclude Dream’s arc as he confronts the consequences of his past actions.
According to Netflix, “After a fateful reunion with his family, Dream of the Endless must face one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world… The path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists, and true absolution may cost Dream everything.”
Although showrunner Allan Heinberg planned the second season as the series’ conclusion while filming in summer 2023, Netflix only confirmed it as the final season in January.
That announcement coincided with sexual misconduct allegations made against The Sandman graphic novel author and series executive producer Neil Gaiman.
Tom Sturridge leads the cast, joined by Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Esmé Creed-Miles, Adrian Lester, and Gwendoline Christie, among others.
Jamie Childs directed all episodes of the new season. Heinberg executive produces alongside David S. Goyer and Gaiman. Produced by Warner Bros. Television for Netflix, The Sandman is based on the acclaimed DC Comics series by Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Dringenberg.
