Fyre Festival 2 has officially been postponed, weeks after ticket sales launched for the controversial event.
According to ABC News, organizers confirmed the festival is delayed but not canceled, though no new date has been provided. The event, intended to run from May 30 to June 2 in Mexico, has faced growing scrutiny over its legitimacy.
Originally set on Isla Mujeres and later moved to Playa del Carmen, Fyre Festival 2 has faced setbacks due to the absence of event permits and a lack of confirmed musical acts. Local authorities in Playa del Carmen released a statement saying no official registration or planning had been submitted for the event. This directly contradicts organizers' claims that they were working with officials since early March.
Ticket prices ranged from $1,400 to over $1 million, despite no lineup being revealed. The delay has fueled online skepticism, especially as updates from festival founder Billy McFarland—still on probation following a 2018 wire fraud conviction—slowed. McFarland has not publicly addressed the postponement.
The original 2017 Fyre Festival became infamous for its disastrous execution, including undelivered promises of luxury accommodations and stranded attendees. McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to pay $26 million in restitution. He was released in 2022.
At least one ticket buyer has reportedly received a refund, along with a message confirming the postponement and promising a new date announcement. For now, Fyre Festival 2 remains on hold, with its credibility and future in serious doubt.
