KARACHI:

Sindh Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, chaired an important meeting to discuss the third-party motor insurance claims, with special focus on public facilitation and reforms in the existing system.

The meeting was attended by Excise Secretary Muhammad Saleem Rajput, heads of insurance companies, and other relevant officials. The representatives of insurance companies gave a detailed briefing to the minister regarding ongoing challenges, public grievances, and the current operational framework.

The discussion centered around proposed amendments to the Motor Third Party Insurance Act of 1939 and its implementation in the province.

The minister emphasised the need to modernise the insurance claim system, making it more transparent, accessible, and beneficial for the public.

He stated that the current compensation rates under the 1939 Act are outdated and do not reflect present-day economic realities. Amendments to the Act are essential and will be pursued in consultation with the Ministry of Law.

Chawla further directed insurance companies to upgrade their call centres and facilitation systems within two weeks to ensure improved services for citizens.

The heads of insurance companies appreciated the minister's initiatives.
