Five more die in unabated road carnage
Karachi, a city known for its blood-stained streets, witnessed five fatalities in separate traffic accidents on Monday.
A 17-year-old boy, Muhammad Hannan Raza, lost his life in a motorcycle accident near Gulshan-e-Iqbal's Maskan Chowrangi. His father expressed anger over the lack of accountability and governance in the city. "If those responsible for previous accidents had been punished, tragedies like this wouldn't keep happening," he said. Hannan's funeral prayers were offered after the Zuhur prayer.
In another incident, a young man was killed on the Lyari Expressway. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. He was reportedly a passerby struck by a speeding vehicle. The driver fled the scene. The identity of the victim, believed to be around 18 years old, had not been confirmed at the time of reporting. Police are working to identify him and continue their investigation.
Elsewhere, a 45-year-old woman named Ambreen was killed in the Orangi Town area. According to police, she was riding pillion on a bike with her husband when a speeding Mazda bus hit them. Ambreen died on the spot, though her husband was miraculously unharmed. The police have seized the bus and arrested the driver.
Another victim, 55-year-old Sabir Hussain, died in an alleged accident involving a water tanker in the jurisdiction of the Defence police station. SHO Defence reported that the tanker driver fled, and police are trying to obtain CCTV footage to determine whether the tanker hit the motorcycle or vice versa.
Additionally, one person was killed in a hit-and-run on Sharae Faisal. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
In a separate incident in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, four people riding a motorcycle were injured after being struck by a speeding car. The driver has been taken into custody. Meanwhile, a heavy cement mixer crashed into multiple vehicles on Lyari Expressway, However, no casualties were reported.
