The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday announced its reserved verdict on an intra-court appeal challenging the appointment of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as deputy prime minister and dismissed the petition as non-maintainable.
A two-member bench led by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal upheld the earlier decision of the single bench, which had also dismissed the plea.
The court observed that, prima facie, the Constitution allows the prime minister to assign any position to a member of parliament or a senior individual.
The detailed judgment will be issued later.
During the hearing, Additional Attorney General Nasar Ahmad opposed the appeal, which was filed by a citizen, Ashba Kamran. The petition had named PM Shehbaz Sharif and others as respondents.
