The Sindh Transport Department has officially launched an online system for the issuance of fitness certificates for commercial vehicles across the province.

This new initiative, which began on March 25, aims to streamline the process, reduce corruption, and improve transparency, Express News reported.

Senior Sindh Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced that two new fitness centres in Karachi—at the Zulfiqarabad Oil Tanker Terminal in Malir and Ibrahim Hyderi in Korangi—have begun conducting physical inspections of commercial vehicles.

These centres are equipped with state-of-the-art tools and staffed by skilled technical teams to ensure the vehicles meet safety standards before fitness certificates are issued by motor vehicle inspectors.

"With the introduction of this online system, we are aiming for a paper-free office environment, better revenue management, and elimination of fraudulent documentation," said Memon.

He highlighted that the new system covers the Provincial Transport Authority, Regional Transport Authority, and District Regional Transport Authorities, marking a major reform in the department.

In the initial phase, 63 vehicles were inspected at the new centres, with 30 vehicles being issued fitness certificates and 33 vehicles being deemed unfit.

The second phase will expand this service to other divisional headquarters across Sindh.

Memon added that the online issuance of route permits and fitness certificates ensures greater transparency and makes the entire process more accountable.

The new system includes modern security features, enabling immediate vehicle verification on-site.
