YouTube star CoryxKenshin has achieved record-breaking success with his original manga series, Monsters We Make, marking one of the most significant independent manga launches in U.S. history. The first volume sold 200,000 copies within its debut week, establishing it as the fastest-selling indie manga series in the country.

With over 21 million subscribers, CoryxKenshin is a household name in the gaming world, best known for his playthroughs of horror games like Five Nights at Freddy’s and Poppy Playtime. However, in 2023, the creator mysteriously went offline, returning in late 2024 with a surprise announcement. During his 18-month hiatus, he had been developing his debut manga project.

Monsters We Make blends sci-fi and horror while diving into philosophical themes and identity. The manga features strong Black representation, a point CoryxKenshin highlighted when discussing the significance of the main character, Jabari.

“Creating a story that scrutinises humanity and what makes us tick, injecting some of the Black representation I’ve been longing to see in this space, and finally adding in some sprinkles of my faith in God, were the driving forces behind this project,” CoryxKenshin explained.

The character of Jabari is designed to inspire readers much like Goku from Dragon Ball Z inspired Cory during his childhood. Volume 2 of Monsters We Make has already been confirmed for release in late 2025.

Despite his publishing success, CoryxKenshin has reassured fans that his YouTube channel remains a priority. He recently stated that he is committed to uploading 100 videos in 2025, following a brief return to offline work in early 2025 to manage his growing business interests.
