RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to increase parking fees by 100 per cent at various parking sites in the city and has completed the work on the parking plaza project on Jinnah Road.

The proposed project is now being sent to the Punjab government for approval.

To address the growing parking issues in the city, further actions have also been planned.

A meeting of the Municipal Corporation's Parking Committee was held under the chairmanship of Chief Officer Imran Ali, with representatives from traffic police, RDA, Municipal Corporation officers, and traders in attendance.

The meeting decided to pave the parking site at Namak Mandi with tiles before awarding the contract.

It also approved a revision of parking fees across the city.

According to the new rates, the parking fee for motorcycles will be increased from Rs10 to Rs20, and for cars, the fee will rise from Rs30 to Rs50.

The meeting acknowledged the urgent need for additional parking plazas in the city.

It was decided that the project for a new parking plaza on Jinnah Road, near Fawara Chowk, will be submitted for approval to the Punjab government without delay.

The new parking plaza will help alleviate the severe parking issues in areas like Liaquat Road, Raja Bazaar, Kashmiri Bazaar, and Jinnah Road.
