In a week filled with crime, the capital city has witnessed a troubling rise in criminal activity, including three murders, 19 motorcycle thefts, and three car thefts.
Despite the presence of Pakistan Police Service officers and the federal capital's police force, which enjoys more resources than other provinces, the police seem unable to control crime effectively.
According to available statistics, crimes such as theft, robbery, and murder have been rampant throughout the week. This includes the brutal killings of two women in the Lohi Bher area, under the jurisdiction of the local police station.
Over the course of seven days, more than 33 criminal incidents were reported, including the theft of 19 motorcycles, three cars, and more than four incidents of mobile snatching. Additionally, more than six burglaries occurred, with citizens losing valuable items.
The Islamabad police have registered First Information Reports (FIRs) for all reported incidents. However, sources suggest that the actual number of crimes is much higher than the official statistics indicate. Many cases reportedly go unreported because the police refuse to file FIRs or keep complainants in a state of uncertainty, ultimately discouraging them from pursuing smaller cases.
On the other hand, a statement issued by the spokesperson for Islamabad police mentioned that in the past two weeks, 171 suspects were arrested, and various cases were registered. As part of an ongoing operation against illegal weapons, 54 individuals were arrested, and police seized 46 pistols, rifles with magazines, and a large quantity of ammunition.
