The ex-husband of US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly apologised after being filmed verbally harassing a group of Muslim women at a shopping centre in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Perry Greene issued the apology during a press conference on Friday, days after footage surfaced showing him directing Islamophobic abuse at the group as they prayed in a car park to mark the end of Ramadan.
“I just wanted them to know that I humbly apologise to them because nobody should be treated that way,” Greene said, after attending a prayer event with Muslim community leaders. “That’s not the right way for us to treat anybody with any differences. Hopefully they’ll find it in their hearts to forgive me.”
The incident occurred last Sunday as the women laid down a prayer rug in an empty parking space at the Avalon shopping centre before going inside to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
According to the group, Greene first walked by and hurled profanities at them. He later returned in a Tesla Cybertruck, where he continued shouting abuse, telling the women to “go back to their country” and accusing them of worshipping a “false God” — despite all of them being born and raised in Georgia.
The footage has sparked widespread outrage, prompting Greene to seek dialogue with Muslim leaders and issue a formal apology.
