
A third incident of the involvement of police personnel in vehicle snatching in the city has come to light.
The Anti Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) arrested Sub-Inspector Muhammad Urs Solangi, posted at Malir Cantt Police Station, recovering a car stolen from the limits of Shahrae Faisal police station. The arrested officer was also providing protection to his son's car lifting gang.
On March 30, AVLC Baldia Division police arrested two members of the inter-provincial car snatching Solangi gang, Qasim alias Amir, and Shoaib alias SK, who were injured during the encounter. However, the leader of the Solangi gang, Danish Solangi alias Mir, fled the scene with two other accomplices.
Police had recovered a Toyota Corolla car which was stolen from the Firozabad area, along with weapons, from the possession of the suspects on March 27. The recovered vehicle was snatched by the accused on Shaheed-e-Millat Road after the accused brutally dragged out the family in the car.
During interrogation of the injured accused, it was revealed that the leader of the Solangi gang, Danish Solangi, is a former army personnel, and the son of the sub-inspector, who was arrested after this revelation.
Fake officers nabbed
Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police arrested two fake police officers, Bilawal Khilji and Syed Waqas Hussain, who stole data from digital sites, contacted customers, then committed kidnapping and robbery after reaching victims' homes in fake police uniforms.
Two illegal 30 bore pistols with ammunition, three police uniforms, eight mobile phones, dozens of uniform badges, watches, mobile SIMs and 20 bags were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspects. The vehicle number BKY-361 with a fake number plate used by the suspects was also seized.
The accused revealed during investigation that they entered a house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on March 6, looted mobile phones, gold jewelry, watches and cash, then kidnapped the victim and had him withdraw money from ATMs, before fleeing with the loot.
Further, the accused entered a flat in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on January 2 by introducing themselves in police uniform to the victim, before looting the victims mobile phone, ATM card and vehicle documents, thereafter making the victim withdraw money from various ATMs and Easypaisa shops, before fleeing with the vehicle.
Cases have been registered against the arrested suspects under the code of conduct, with investigation authorities conducting further inquiry into the cases.
Cops run for life
Two police officers on motorcycle patrol had a narrow escape when they encountered robbers in the Korangi Industrial Area. The robbers opened fire on the officers, who were unarmed and not wearing bulletproof vests.
According to eyewitnesses, the officers were passing through the area when they stumbled upon three robbers fleeing from a warehouse they had just robbed. The robbers panicked and started firing at the officers, who quickly fled the scene.
One of the officers abandoned his motorcycle and took cover in a nearby warehouse, while the other officer fled on foot. The robbers, who were also on a motorcycle, crashed and fled on foot, leaving their vehicle behind.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras, and the footage has gone viral on social media. The Korangi SSP has suspended both officers and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to SHO Korangi Industrial Area, Inspector Muhammad Ali Naizi, the officers were unarmed and not wearing bulletproof vests when they encountered the robbers. He added that the officers were lucky to have escaped unharmed.
