LAHORE:

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General Asim Javed conducted a surprise field visit during Sehri hours to assess food quality and hygiene standards.

Accompanied by food safety teams, he inspected several outlets in Anarkali Food Street, Gulberg and Mozang.

During the inspections, 49 Sehri points were checked, resulting in fines totaling Rs350,000 imposed on 22 establishments for violating food safety regulations.

The teams also discarded 100 litres of substandard milk, one maund of yogurt, 37 litres of low-quality ghee and rotten vegetables found during the inspections.

The DG stated that fines had been imposed over the use of contaminated spices, unhygienic freezers and failure to comply with previous directives. Additionally, several businesses lacked mandatory food safety records, while handlers were found operating without medical and training certificates.

So far, the PFA has inspected 74,382 Sehri and Iftar food points across the province during the ongoing month.
