The lawyers on Monday have warned of a complete court lockdown following allegations of police brutality against lawyers in a property dispute. The legal fraternity has also called for the resignation of Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar.
The controversy arose when lawyers claimed that a close relative of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was involved in developing a housing society on their ancestral land. They asserted that while they sought legal protection of their property, police officials subjected them to violence instead.
Advocate Zameer Jhedu, a member of the Punjab Bar Council, stated that his brother was taken into custody without justification. When he and fellow lawyers visited the police station to inquire about the complainant, they were allegedly assaulted by police officials.
Expressing deep disappointment, Jhedu accused the Punjab Bar Council of aligning with the establishment due to the influence of the federal law minister.
At a General House meeting of the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) held at Aiwan-e-Adl, lawyers strongly condemned the incident.
LBA President Mubashir Rehman criticized Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, noting that it was unacceptable for lawyers to be mistreated under his watch.
