Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a fresh rain and snow alert for the mountainous districts of the province.
According to the PDMA, a westerly weather system will enter upper parts of the province Monday night and will affect the upper and central areas from March 25 to 27.
During this period, intermittent rains with wind/thunderstorm is expected, while heavy rain is also expected in the upper areas.
According to the PDMA, during this period, intermittent rain with thundershowers is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Sawabi, Bannu, Karak and Kohat, while snowfall is expected in the mountains.
The PDMA has sent a letter to district administration to deal with any untoward incident due to rains. The district administration has also been directed to ensure availability of small and large machinery to deal with any emergency situation.
The letter directed that during the rains, the public should stay away from power lines, dilapidated buildings and structures, signboards and billboards and farmers should adjust their routines keeping in mind the weather forecast.
The PDMA directed tourists and local population in sensitive upper areas and hill stations to take precautionary measures to stay informed about weather conditions.
The letter said that administration in sensitive districts should convey messages to the local population in local languages, all relevant agencies should be alert in restoring road links in any emergency situation and alternative routes should be provided for traffic in case of road closure.
