Pakistan upgrades passport system to speed up processing

The upgraded system is expected to reduce processing times and improve service delivery across the country

Pakistan has begun a major upgrade to its passport printing system with the import of high-tech e-passport printers from Germany, aimed at enhancing efficiency and security.

According to Gulf News, the country has acquired two advanced e-passport printers and six desktop printers as part of efforts to modernise its passport issuance process.

Director General of Immigration and Passports, Mustafa Jamal Qazi, recently inspected the newly arrived machines at the e-printer section.

“These high-speed printers are capable of processing up to 1,000 passports per hour, which will significantly improve Pakistan’s capacity to meet the rising demand,” he said.

A team of foreign technical experts has also arrived in Pakistan to oversee the installation and ensure the smooth transition of operations. Their role includes optimising the machines' performance to operate at maximum efficiency.

The upgraded system is expected to reduce processing times and improve service delivery across the country. Officials say the new printers will not only enhance the speed and reliability of passport issuance but also introduce improved security features to help prevent counterfeiting.
