RAWALPINDI:

The third phase of the privatisation drive for public schools is set to begin after Eidul Fitr. Under this phase, all government schools with an enrolment of 100 or fewer students will be sold to private owners.

The Ministry of Education has directed District Education Officers and Heads of District Education Authorities from all 43 districts across the province to compile and submit a list of schools that meet this criterion.

Sources indicate that a significant number of these schools are located in rural villages, with some also found in urban areas, particularly primary schools in cities with low student enrolment. These schools will be available for privatisation immediately following Eid.

The move is part of the government's ongoing efforts to streamline the education sector and address the challenge of underutilised public school resources. By selling these schools, the government aims to reduce its financial burden.
