Canadian actress and entrepreneur Jasmine Mooney, best known for her role in American Pie Presents: The Book of Love (2009), claims she was shackled and detained in “inhumane” conditions after attempting to reenter the U.S. on March 3.

Mooney, 35, co-founder of the Holy! Water wellness brand, traveled to the San Ysidro border crossing to renew her U.S. work visa after discovering it had been revoked during a trip to Vancouver. Instead of being turned away, she was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and held for three nights at the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego.

“I was put in a cell with no blanket or pillow, just an aluminum foil wrap,” she told KGTV San Diego. She was later transferred to the San Luis Regional Detention Center in Arizona, allegedly spending 24 hours shackled in chains during transport.

Her lawyer, Len Saunders, suggested that shifting U.S. immigration policies following Donald Trump’s reelection played a role in her detainment.

Mooney’s family, including her mother, Alexis Eagles, expressed concern over her prolonged detention and lack of transparency. Canadian officials have acknowledged the case but stated they cannot intervene in U.S. border policies.

British Columbia Premier David Eby criticized the detainment, calling it reckless and warning of its impact on Canada-U.S. relations. Meanwhile, Mooney’s supporters continue to push for her immediate release and safe return to Canada.
