The body of a woman found in the Rawat police precinct has been identified as a married schoolteacher who mysteriously went missing in December 2024.
According to a spokesperson for the police, the deceased, Qudsia Batool, had been reported missing by her husband, Muhammad Amin, who had lodged an abduction complaint with the Rawat police on December 8.
However, Batool's brother had also filed a complaint, accusing Amin of being involved in his sister's disappearance.
Batool's remains were discovered near a stream in the Ghora Rajgan area. Her 16-year-old daughter and other family members identified her through distinguishing features.
According to Amin's statement to the police, he had been married to Batool for 17 years, and they had one daughter. He claimed they had visited the Kalyam Sharif shrine on December 5, after which Batool expressed her desire to visit her parents. He said he dropped her off at a local transport stop, but she never reached her destination.
Batool's brother, Asad Ali, contested this account, alleging that Amin wanted to marry another woman and had been pressuring Batool for divorce. Ali claimed that Amin had threatened to kill Batool if she did not comply.
A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the post-mortem suggested Batool had been strangled with a rope and suffered a head injury before her body was tied to a rock and dumped in the stream. Initial findings suggest the murder occurred about a month and a half ago.
Police are now investigating links between Amin and a local faith healer.
