ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif summoned the senior management of gas companies for a late-night meeting to review the supply situation following complaints of load-shedding during Sehr and Iftar times in the holy month of Ramazan.

Taking notice of the public's difficulties, the prime minister directed the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and the Sui Northern Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to take immediate remedial measures to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to households during Sehi and Iftar.

"The prime minister held an emergency meeting late at night regarding this issue," said an official handout. During the meeting, the managing directors and senior management of gas companies discussed the problems of gas supply during Sehr and Iftar in detail.

Following the prime minister's instructions, SSGC decided to immediately increase gas pressure by 10%. The gas utilities assured that gas supply would begin 30-45 minutes before Sehr and Iftar, with improved pressure in affected areas.

After the meeting, SSGC announced the establishment of control rooms at its head and regional offices to monitor the gas distribution system. These control rooms will review supply situation daily, ensuring that complaints of low pressure are resolved on an emergency basis.

Meanwhile, an SNGPL spokesperson confirmed that immediate action had been taken on the prime minister's instructions and assured that gas supply during Sehr and Iftar would be maintained at all costs. The spokesperson also urged citizens to report complaints by calling 1199.

Earlier, people in many parts of the country, including Karachi, complained of gas load-shedding during Sehr and Iftar. In response, Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah appealed to the prime minister to order no load shedding of electricity and gas during Ramazan.
